BioAmber

BioAmber is a sustainable chemicals company that combines industrial biotechnology and chemical catalysis to convert renewable feedstock into chemicals for use in a variety of everyday products including plastics, paints, and polyurethanes.

THE PROBLEM

When it comes to sustainable chemicals, there is a need to bridge the demand across the different players at multiple levels of the supply chain – from chemical producers to brands and retailers and consumers. The supply chain lacks integration, brand owners and buyers do not know the full possibilities of what is available and awareness of emerging players in their supply chain.

THE INNOVATION

At BioAmber we have developed technology to convert renewable sugars to bio-based succinic acid a chemical building-block, that replaces petroleum-based chemicals to offer both performance and sustainability in a broad range of products from industrial applications such as polyurethanes, paints and coatings, to specialty applications, such as flavours and food, and personal care ingredients.

STAGE OF INNOVATION: Commercial/Market Deployment

THE VISION

We see BioAmber as the new face of chemistry – we use renewable carbon to replace petroleum-based chemicals. Our Bio succinic acid is non-toxic and non-hazardous. We want to expand the market for succinic acid by continuing to develop new applications with customers and substituting other petrochemicals with lower priced, sustainable Bio SA.

“Chemistry can be inspired by nature, to offer a more sustainable future.” – Babette Pettersen, Chief Commercial Officer
