Ron is the Deputy Commissioner of Sanitation for New York City where he is responsible for New York City’s recycling program which includes residential, commercial and school collection, organics, ewaste, textiles and hazardous waste. His team is responsible for implementing Mayor Bloomberg’s solid waste management plan goals for recycling and waste diversion.
Ron is also an Adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School where he teaches a course on entrepreneurship.
Prior to joining the Bloomberg administration, Ron was the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Healthy Planet Partners which deploys renewable energy solutions to sports stadiums and athletic facilities. Healthy Planet is currently run by Ron’s partners, Mike Richter and Andrea Wenner.
Prior to Healthy Planet Partners, Ron was the Co-founder and CEO of RecycleBank from 2004-2010, During his tenure as CEO, RecycleBank grew from an idea to a company that serviced over 100 cities and over 1m households. RecycleBank was recognized by a number of leading business and environmental organizations
including the World Economic Forum as a 2009 Technology Pioneer and the Wall Street Journal as the #1 Venture Backed Clean TechCompany in 2010.
Ron was a recipient of the 2010 University Medal of Excellence from Columbia University which is awarded annually to alumnus under the age of 45 for outstanding achievement in scholarship, public service and professional life. He was recognized by the United Nations Environment Programme as a 2009 Champion of the Earth, a designation given to 7 people around the world each year in recognition of their leadership in protecting the environment. He is a Henry Catto Fellow at the Aspen Institute and term member at the Council on Foreign Relations.
Ron is the lead investor in Linhardt Design Studio, a jewelry company that designs fine jewelry with a focus on high design merged with sustainable principles. Ron serves on the Board of Advisors of DailyFeats
