Omar Hashmi is a corporate attorney at Squire Sanders (US) LLP. He represents a number of startup and venture-backed companies on equity and debt financings, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate matters. His clients span industry sectors including software and communications, life sciences, and energy technologies. He also advises venture capital and private equity funds with fundraising, capital formation, and portfolio investment transactions.
In his previous work with Development Alternatives, Inc., Omar advised USAID’s Global Development Alliance on identifying and structuring entrepreneurship and venture capital public-private partnerships and strategic alliances. He was responsible for sourcing investors, investment funds, and developers in Silicon Valley, New York City, and Washington, D.C. for forming an economic development fund focusing on Africa.
Omar is the co-founder of the DC Social Innovation Project, a non-profit accelerator program that identifies and invests in creative entrepreneurs who tackle pressing social issues in Washington, DC. In his spare time he mentors several startups and social enterprises in Northern California and Washington, DC
Omar received a BS in marketing from California State University Fresno, and received a JD/MBA from Howard University.
