LAUNCH Nordic

The LAUNCH Nordic Innovation Challenge 2016 will open June 1 and will close September 1 2016.

The LAUNCH Nordic Innovation Challenge is a global call for innovators and entrepreneurs, companies and organizations. We invite and urge innovators globally to apply, and to help us find the answers to this year’s challenge.

LAUNCH Nordic seeks to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable society through open innovation, industry collaboration and global systems mobilization.

The core partners behind LAUNCH Nordic are IKEA Group, Novozymes, Kvadrat, The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Danish Evironmental Protection Agency and Region Skåne.

LAUNCH Nordic was founded in 2014 in collaboration with LAUNCH, a strategic partnership between NIKE, NASA, The U.S. Department of State and The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), with the goal of harnessing the strengths of the Nordic region to accelerate innovation in sustainable materials and how they are made.

“Collaboration can bring great results, for example we work closely with Nike to pioneer new techniques for textile dyeing that dramatically reduce the use of water, energy and chemicals."

Håkan Nordkvist, Head of Sustainability Innovation, IKEA Group

LAUNCH Nordic unite partners willing to move beyond competitive innovations and engage in collaborative innovation and systems mobilization.

"What is special about LAUNCH Nordic is the strong partnership of both government, academic and industry. Public Private Partnerships is exactly what we need to help sustainable innovations go to scale.”

Claus Stig Pedersen, Senior Director, Sustainability, Novozymes.

Each year LAUNCH Nordic partners mobilize technical experts, government officials, educational institutions and industry player throughout the value chain to address a major global sustainability challenge. And each year a global call for innovations is conducted and 5-10 innovators or pilot projects are invited to the LAUNCH acceleration program.

The innovators will present their innovations at the LAUNCH Nordic Forum to a Council made up of leading industry and government representatives, materials experts, and investors.

“Engaging with private sector stakeholders during the Launch Nordic process has really helped us clarify the business value our innovation offers. We have also been able to communicate our offer more clearly and attract new investors as a result.
The introductions to government stakeholders have given BCI a more public profile in the Nordic countries and opened up avenues for government investment and collaboration. Overall, a fantastic initiative to be involved in.”

Following the LAUNCH Nordic Forum, innovators will enter an accelerator program where they will have access to mentoring, networking opportunities, and key investors to enable them to bring their innovations to scale.

"When Re:newcell applied to LAUNCH Nordic as an innovator we expected to get in contact with some of the industry’s most important actors but we got a lot more than that;

At the LAUNCH Nordic Forum we not only got in contact with some of the most important actors on the market, we got a chance to develop our business plan in co-operation with both our future customers as well as our future suppliers. This was a true accelerator!”
