Mr. Watson is an international leader in the green building movement with 25 years of experience on five continents. Pulitzer Prize winning author and New York Times columnist, Thomas Friedman calls Mr. Watson “one of America’s best environmental minds.”
Watson founded, and is currently the Chairman and CEO of the EcoTech International Group (ETI) to meet the fast-growing demand for green building technologies and services in China, India and the U.S. Watson also currently serves as Executive Editor of GreenerBuildings.com. From 1985 to 2006 Mr. Watson was a Senior Scientist with the Natural Resources Defense Council where he directed the Green Building and International Energy programs during which time he pioneered the green building concept as the “Father of LEED” – the world’s largest and fastest-growing green building rating system. Among numerous international awards for his work, Watson is the only foreigner honoured for Green Building Innovation by the Chinese Ministry of Construction and received the first lifetime achievement award from the U.S. Green Building Council.
Mr. Watson received his MBA from Columbia University and has a Masters of Science from the University of California, Berkeley and a B.A. from Dartmouth College where he was a Senior Fellow. He is married to Green Schools Alliance Founder Margaret Howard Watson and has a 10-year-old son, Max.
