Dr. Andreadis was appointed in December 2007 to lead Innovation at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Her focus is to strengthen and support a culture of innovation at CDC, to foster new approaches that accelerate translation of evidence into actions that measurably improve health, and to foster and identify opportunities to support CDC’s mission through collaboration and synchronization across CDC, government, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and communities.
Dr. Andreadis has more than twenty-six years of experience as a bench scientist with numerous publications. Prior to her current position Dr. Andreadis was the Chief of the Botulism Public Health Research and Preparedness Unit in the National Center for Zoonotic, Vector-Borne, and Enteric Diseases. Her focus was to identify gaps in public health laboratory response capability, work with cross-sector partners to develop innovative solutions, and transition novel capabilities to public health laboratories. Before joining CDC, Dr. Andreadis was a principal investigator at the Center for Bio/Molecular Science and Engineering at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. Her work entailed developing methods to support the production of artificial biological polymers, tissue-based biological sensors, and high throughput multivariate tests for identification, subtyping and profiling of organisms. Dr. Andreadis earned her PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Maryland.
