Dr. Diana Yousef, Founder and Principal of Development Innoventures, works with early-stage technology spin-outs and social impact ventures commercializing university-generated technologies in the cleantech, sustainability, mobile tech, life sciences and global health spaces. Drawing upon her diversity of experiences in venture investing, strategy consulting, scientific research, and emerging markets, she helps startups navigate the challenges around early proof-of-concept, R&D and product development strategy, business plan development, market strategy, and financing.
Previously, Diana was the Venture Principal with Kidd and Company, building their venture practice focused on cleantech and biotechnology, while also working on a portfolio of later-stage energy and healthcare private equity deals. At Battelle Ventures, she invested in and helped create seed-/early-stage spin-outs in renewable energies, biotechnology, healthcare, and IT. She helped launch the Life Sciences Investment Group of the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank, investing in growth-stage life sciences and agriculture companies in emerging markets. While at McKinsey & Company, Diana consulted to clients in the biopharma, high tech, consumer goods, financial services, logistics and government sectors around go-to-market, pricing and growth strategies; business development; operations; and post-merger integration. She also cofounded an incubator within the UNDP to catalyze Base-of-the-Pyramid (BoP) investments and private sector growth in developing countries in such areas as renewable energies, water and sanitation, financial services, telecommunications and supply-chain sourcing.
Diana trained as a biochemist at Harvard University (B.A.) and Cornell University (PhD in Structural Biology and Biochemistry). She also holds an MBA and an MA in International Affairs from Columbia University. She advises incubators, startups, non-profits, and policymakers working to blend technological innovation, financial viability, economic development, and social impact. She is on the Advisory Board for the TED Fellows Program, and a Founding Council Member for NASA’s Launch Initiative. She co-founded the McKinsey Alumni in Development Network.
